Integrated creation and classification processes

Integrated creation and classification processes

The most effective way for achieving and sustaining high data quality is to fill in and store product features of parts (components, assemblies and products) directly when creating them. At this time you have dealt with the part anyway: a) for catalog parts to be purchased a conscious selection has been made and the product features are known; b) for self-drawn parts at least the required product features are available in terms of requirements. Thus everything needed to classify the parts is at hand.

PartExplorer with its numerous automatisms takes away any argument not to classify a part immediately during part creation (see data cleansing and automatic classification). It is a fact that the combination of part creation and classification is faster and more accurate than simply creating the part master data record, since material short texts or descriptions, purchase order texts etc. can be created automatically from the classification.

Of course the creation process can also be started in an ERP or PDM system and the part number can be assigned there. Via the bi-directional interfaces of PartExplorer, newly created part master data records will be immediately transferred to PartExplorer and the classification workflow is started. This would ensure that the ERP or PDM system continues to play the leading role.

Benefit of integrated creation and classification processes:

  • Avoiding unnecessary part proliferation and variance
  • Mastering part proliferation and variance
  • Reduce purchase prices and manufacturing costs
  • Ensure data quality in a sustainable way

Measures to achieve integrated creation and classification processes:

  • Process planning and implementation concepts
  • Workflow-driven accumulation of data
