Engineering efficiency means for your engineers to find the best solutions for their designing tasks while spending the least time possible. By all means, we should avoid that they work on unnecessary developments such as duplicates or avoidable similar parts. In addition, periodic tasks and responsibilities such as selecting, positioning and adjusting parts and components need to be handled with automatic help to clear space for innovative products. Engineering efficiency is a sub-goal of innovation management.

Wrong target figures

In many cases, engineering efficiency is measured by the amount of new products or parts an engineer is capable of developing. This equation is not correct! Every newly designed component causes huge costs to your business (see chapter diversity management).

After all, engineering efficiency should be determined by the speed and method used by the design engineer or assembly when asked to solve a specific designing task. Such a project usually is set up to launch a certain product on the market while keeping the developing and manufacturing costs to your business as low as possible. So, these projects should not have the goal to develop a certain amount of components.

The road to success

When you apply our methods and use Part Explorer, iMechX, and 3DSearchIT you can reduce your search time and increase the quantity of re-usable parts. Our CAD-integration is customized to the engineering methods perfectly and can be adjusted to any further requirement needed. Every engineering process can be automated (conform to PDM).

Engineering efficiency cannot be reached by using standard part libraries or catalog part libraries. That will result in a huge amount of part diversity. In addition re-usable parts are often self-drafted and not to be taken from any catalog. Use PartExplorer, iMechX and 3DSearchIT to optimize the handling of all re-usable parts.
